Raw Form I

Before a mark means anything, it simply happens. Something is arriving here that has not yet agreed to be named. The forms carry the poise of a first thought, still open, still able to become anything, and they hold that openness with complete composure.

This is the frequency just before meaning. Not silence, but the pause a voice takes before committing to a word. Everything the world will later demand of a shape, that it stand for something, that it be understood, is still some way off, and the work is more alive for having none of it yet.

There is a particular calm that belongs only to beginnings. It lives here undiminished.

Wherever it hangs, the air takes on the quality of first light: everything present, nothing yet decided.
